Efterklangs Sommertræf - 2023

The third edition and the celebration of Efterklang’s 20-year anniversary!

June 12th 2023 we (Mads, Casper & Rasmus) traveled to Loshult in Sweden for a week long residency and the third edition of Efterklangs Sommertræf which was organised in collaboration with the amazing team behind Loshult Handelsbod.

As 2023 marks the 20-year anniversary of our debut concert and debut release (Springer) we had decided to celebrate this at the Sommertræf by inviting a group of very special people.

We were joined by our two co-founding members Thomas Husmer and Rune Mølgaard and a long list of amazing musicians and people who all have played vital roles in our live band and history in the past 20 years:

We set up all our instruments and for 5 days we hung out in the village of Loshult and played music together. On day 6 we opened the doors to 120 guests (more about the final day below).

When we weren’t playing music we went swimming, played cards and had amazing food cooked by our hosts from Loshult Handelsbod. It was a unique setting for catching up on so many shared memories.

On day 6 of the residency we opened the doors to 120 guests for a lovely summer gathering with communal dinner, concerts, a walk and friendly socialising.

When everyone had arrived we all sang a song together in the garden of Loshult Handelsbod and then we walked together through the forest of Loshult to this magical natural amphitheatre where we all took part in a sonic meditation (The Tuning Meditation by Pauline Oliveros).

Afterwards we walked to the church of Loshult for a concert programme featuring compositions/performances by Niklas Antonson, Daniel James, Frederik Teige, Christian Balvig, Katinka Fogh Vindelev, Rune Mølgaard, Martyn Heyne & Efterklang. We all helped each other performing the pieces.

Then we had a wonderful dinner by chef Mati Pinchi which was created and presented together with the Loshult Handelsbod Team and so many nice helpers from the Loshult community.

Then it was time for two more concerts. In the first one we all got together to perform compositions/songs by Martyn Heyne, Øyunn. Peter Broderick, Arthur Russell, Daniel James, Slaraffenland, Heather Woods Broderick and Efterklang.

This was followed by Efterklang’s 20-year anniversary concert. We played one song from all our albums and EPs + a new yet unreleased song. We were 15 musicians on stage performing the songs together. It was an intoxicating experience and also quite an emotional rollercoaster ride! We’re still digesting!

We feel so grateful towards everyone who helped make this happen and all the guests. We especially want to thank all participating artists and Raphael and Salli and everyone on Team Loshult Handelsbod. We have never felt so welcomed. Thank you.

Efterklang’s Sommertræf is inspired by our participation in the People Festival in Berlin 2018 and our 8 writing residencies with Liima between 2014 and 2016. The 2023 residency is supported by The Danish Arts Foundation & Knud Højgaards Foundation.
