Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

We’ve had the most incredible tour debut around China, and the last concert, Saturday, at Yugongyishan in Beijing was such a nice way to end it all.
Thanks a lot to all of you sweet people that turned up at the concerts, and made us feel more welcome than we could ever have dreamt of! Can’t wait till next time…

Much love from all of us

Parades Concert Diary #2 - September 10th

Friday, September 19th, 2008

Hi all

A little late, but here’s an update on our preparations for the Parades Concert in Copenhagen, Day#2!

Today was really exciting, as this was our very first rehearsal with the whole orchestra. We tried 4 of the more “difficult” songs/arrangements, and the experience was overwhelming!!!
It’s hard to describe, but listening to the music for the first time played by an orchestra all together, feels so right. This first big rehearsal, was mostly about listening and getting used to the sound and general feel of the orchestra - so we were all waiting like small boys at the candy shop window:)

Can’t wait till next week, witch will be packed with rehearsals and preparations, up until the big concert day on Friday, September 26th!

You can read more about the concert here and buy tickets on BilletNet.dk (DA/EN)

Here’s a couple of Photo’s from the day:

it’s hard to get all in the picture, when there’re so many people, and your camera is way to small…

Good Copy Bad Copy

Friday, June 8th, 2007

Yesterday I sat down to watch this documentary - Good Copy Bad Copy - about copyrights. Over the two past years I have read a bunch of articles on the subject, I have witnessed panel debates on the issue and had many discussions about it with friends and people who likes music…

I have to say this documentary has everything and more even so! It takes you through well known issues like sampling in hip-hop to IFPI´s and RIAA´s legal actions against the youngsters who love music the most to interesting perspectives from the Nigerian film industry and the Brazilian Techno Brega movement. It is entertaining, it is full of surprizes it has great music, clipping and heroes and villains who share their knowledge and thoughts about copyright in this internet and digital driven age.

This documentary is simply great! I recommend to visit their website where you will find a link so you can download/watch the entire film and if you like you can also donate money to the filmmakers: Ralf Christensen, Henrik Moltke & Andreas Johnson who we can thank for this little masterpiece.

The memory of DJ Klock

Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

Sad news indeed. Ryo Kato known to us as DJ Klock, or just Klock, is no longer here. April 10th he decided to leave this life. We hope he has found peace where he is now.

Klock was 1/3 of Cacoy, the Japanese trio who in February 2006 released the album Human is Music in Europe on our label Rumraket. An album that to this date still stands as one of the absolute favorite albums among us Efterklang people. Since 2004 we have listened to the album regularly with constant joy - so this is indeed sincere and a fact.

Cacoy - Human is Music We were presented to the Cacoy album in the fall of 2004 and a year later when Klock and Saya and Ueno (from Tenniscoats) gave us permission to release this album in Europe (three years after it´s initial release in Japan) it was like a little dream that came true for us. We will never forget them for trusting us and for letting us work with them.

Through Cacoy we learned about the artist Dj Klock. We are glad that we have been presented to all of this music. Klock has an impressive discography behind him as a soloartist on great labels such as Sublime, Revirth and Ropeadope and together with his wife Yuki, he also ran his own Clockwise Records. All of his works are indeed worth listening to - allthough they can be difficult to find here in Europe. The albums I know best are:

San (Ropeadobe, 2006)

Sensation (Revirth, 2004)

These two albums display Klocks magnificent talent. He was a master of turntablizm and a master of dry constantly moving beats. Even more important he was an aesthetic and his combination of musical skills, artistery and flair for moods and composition was unique. His ability to see music as an art and not just as entertainment makes him a rare artist that will be missed. I can also recommend his Rainbow Trilogy (cd, vinyl and tape) - a very interesting project under his other name Turntabrush.

Klock visiting me in Copenhagen - Sep 2006 My relationship to Ryo Kato existed almost mainly through his music. On one single occasion I got to meet him, when he in september 2006 visited us here in Copenhagen. He played at a Rumraket night and what he did with his three turntables and effects still stands very clear to me. I know there are more of his kind around the world, but I have never witnessed anything like that with my own ears and eyes.

After the concert Ryo stayed in my apartment and next day, we walked around Copenhagen in beautiful sunshine for hours before he was off again to another city. As much as Im sad that I never will have the chance to meet him again, Im very grateful I at least got to meet him this one time.

In the end Ryo was touched by an unbreakable depression. DJ Klock leaves behind him wife and kid and a musical legacy. He will be remembered and missed.

Number 1:

The new Deerhoof album is great! It is called Friend Oppurtunity and Im glad i got the opportunity to become friends with this insanely great album…

Number 2:

Listen to: Ernie and the sandstorm, old man and the sea - MP3

The new Kirsten Ketsjer The Rock Band album. It is called FFFFOO K TSSCCH and if you buy the vinyl version then it comes with a 12″ (side a & d) and a 7″ (side b & c) and artwork printed and cut in hand by Zven Balslev aka Smittekilde

Number 3
is the local shop where I bought these two records. It is called Sort Kaffe and Vinyl and it is my favorite place to buy coffee and music. The music selection is small but essential and forward looking at the same time. And the place (as the name suggests) also is a coffee house with very friendly prices! It´s located in Vesterbro, Copenhagen - the street is Skydebanegade…

Mads on audible sightseing

Friday, March 16th, 2007
Mads on icelandic audible sightseing Last week Mads visited his girlfriend on Iceland and brought with him equipment to make field recordings.

Here he is documenting “Icelandic wind bouncing back from a white wall”.

I wonder what was inside, behind that wall and if it can be heard on the recordings echoing in the wind? Maybe a breakfast buffet or 10 icelandic ponies? Other suggestions are very welcome.
