Canon Blue ‘Rumspringa’ released today!

Monday, August 29th, 2011

This record is very special to us.

Not only is Daniel James aka Canon Blue our dear friend, he also enlisted Mads and Casper to help him produce this new album and Thomas to play drums on a lot of tracks.

Our close friends in Slaraffenland also guest this album (Mike on bass, Niklas on trombone, Bjørn on drums) and so does amiina who has recorded all the amazing string parts. Peter Broderick guests one song and classical singer Katinka Fogh Vindelev who sings on our ‘Magic Chairs’ album is also featured on the album. It all sort of feel like one big happy family gathering!

If you have been following the announcements about this release you probably also know that, besides future Efterklang releases, this is the very last release we do on our label Rumraket. It really feels like the perfect record to end with. You can read a statement about the close of Rumraket here.

Well enough talk. Take a listen to two songs from the album below and if you are tempted you can buy the album on iTunes or on CD (designed by Hvass&Hannibal) via our Rumraket Shop.

The End of Rumraket (almost) – New Canon Blue Album!

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

Back in 2003 we (the members of Efterklang) established the record label Rumraket out of necessity as no labels back then were interested in releasing our music. Shortly after we signed a record deal with The Leaf Label (and recently 4AD) and Rumraket was no longer a necessity it was something we loved to do on the side. We kept the label and signed Grizzly Bear as our first non-Efterklang band in 2005.

Rumraket released Grizzly Bear’s debut album Horn of Plenty in most parts of Europe, and this was followed by records from the rather obscure Japanese artists Cacoy and Kama Aina. Hereafter Rumraket became the base for bands like Slaraffenland (dk), Taxi Taxi! (se), Erik Levander (se) and Canon Blue (us). During the last six years we have released more than 25 titles – among them smaller releases from Our Broken Garden (dk) and amiina (is).

All that will now come to an end. August 29th Rumraket will release Rumspringa, the second album from American artist Canon Blue. Rumraket will not close entirely, but Rumspringa will be the last release on Rumraket, which isn’t an Efterklang release. We will continue to use the label as Efterklang’s base in Scandinavia and therefore this is only almost the end of Rumraket.

We are very proud of all the records we have released throughout the years and the many musicians and artists we have worked with are today some of our very best friends. We would can only thank them for so much wonderful music and memories.

We are closing Rumraket because we no longer have the resources and more importantly the time to run the label. When you are releasing records made by your best friends you want to do your absolute best, but with all our tours and other projects this is no longer possible for us.

The last (non Efterklang) release on Rumraket is as mentioned Canon Blue’s Rumspringa. We can’t think of a more appropriate record to end with. A tour de force if there ever was one, Rumspringa is a dynamic, lush and orchestral Magnum Opus. It has taken Daniel James aka Canon Blue more than two years completing this album and all his hard work has paid off.

Daniel James recorded the album in Copenhagen, Berlin and Reykjavik in close collaboration with Mads Brauer and Casper Clausen from Efterklang who helped produce the record. Mads also mixed the record which features guest appearances from members of Slaraffenland, Efterklang and amiina who recorded all the string parts in Iceland. Hvass&Hannibal will do the artwork for the record as they have with many others of the past Rumraket releases.

Rumspringa by Canon Blue will be released August 29th. Outside of Scandinavia the record will be released on American label Temporary Residence.

We look forward to share some music and more details about Rumspringa real soon.

EFTERKLANG signs to 4AD – September news

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Efterklang newsletter 03/09/2009
EFTERKLANG SIGNS TO 4AD!
We are very happy to let you know that we have signed a new record deal with 4AD – one of our absolute favourite labels in the world.

We will now be part of a roster that currently counts fine artists like The National, Deerhunter, TV on the Radio, M Ward, Scott Walker, St. Vincent and many more and we are of course full of anticipation about this new collaboration between 4AD and Efterklang. First project together will be our 3rd studio album, which will be released sometime in the first quarter of 2010. The playground for this new friendship is the world, but in Scandinavia we will release our future albums on our own Rumraket label.

This does not mean that we are cutting all ties to our current home, The Leaf Label. Not at all, actually. October 19th 2009 they will release Performing Parades by Efterklang & The Danish National Chamber Orchestra on CD/DVD & LP/DVD.

We have been releasing our music on The Leaf Label since 2004 and it is the home of our Tripper and Parades albums as well as our mini-albums Springer and Under Giant Trees. It has been absolutely joyful for us and we are proud that we have contributed to their incredible discography. We are still waiting for them to release a record we don’t like, but we are beginning to think that it will never happen. We think they will be reading this and here is a huge and sincere THANK YOU for them.

We will be on tour this fall starting Friday!
We are touring most of the fall, because we like to tour and because we want to celebrate the Performing Parades release. The biggest show this fall will be October 28th at Barbican Hall in London where we will be playing a Performing Parades Concert with the classical orchestra Britten Sinfonia. Tickets are available here: barbican.org.uk

FREE SLARAFFENKLANG EP – MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

Please download and enjoy this free Live EP by Slaraffenklang!
A mutant band of Efterklang and Slaraffenland.

SLARAFFENKLANG – “Danish Dynamite Live at Sono Festival 2008″
DOWNLOAD THE FREE EP NOW – 30mb
There are 4 songs on the EP and a front cover is included in the zip archive as well.

Here is the story:
In May 2008 Efterklang & Slaraffenland were on a joint US tour under the name The Danish Dynamite Tour. Halfway through the tour the bands got a call from back home. The newly established Sono Festival wanted to hear if Slaraffenland and Efterklang could be interested in performing a special concert at their festival. After a very quick talk on the topic it was decided that everyone would love to play in a band with two drummers and a lot of distorted guitars and therefore the offer was accepted.

The 4 songs on this free live EP are all recorded at Sono Festival in Rødovre (a suburb to Copenhagen) November 8th 2008. This was the first and maybe also the last concert with Slaraffenklang. The idea is simple and fun. Slaraffenklang is the mutant band of Efterklang and Slaraffenland. There are 12 musicians on stage, all men, and the songs performed are covers of Efterklang and Slaraffenland. Sometimes just louder and more rumbling versions and sometimes in new slightly new arrangements.

tracklist:
Cutting Ice To Snow
Polaroids
Echo Wave
You Win

recorded, mixed and mastered by Petter Samuelsson.

Please Enjoy!
