Monday, June 6th, 2011

Cork Opera House has invited Efterklang + Daniel Bjarnason & Their Messing Orchestra to perform at The Reich Effect. A festival in Cork celebrating American composer Steve Reich.

This will be the very very last concert we do for a long time as we will begin working on a new album soon.

Efterklang+Daniel Bjarnason & Their Messing Orchestra is a special 17 piece band that debuted at the Cross Linx festival tour in February earlier this year.

It is the 7-piece Efterklang live band with Daniel James (of Canon Blue) on guitar, Heather Broderick on piano and Peter Broderick on vibes and steel drum.

And then we have the brilliant Icelandic composer Daniel Bjarnason on Rhodes and then you add a saxophone quartet, a brass quartet and a classic percussionist. This all turns into Efterklang + Daniel Bjarnason & Their Messing Orchestra. We will be playing Efterklang songs with arrangements for the Messing Orchestra by Daniel Bjarnason.

We are honored to be invited to play this concert and the whole festival program looks amazing to us. More info here about the festival.

Here are some videos recorded back in February:

Last day with Private-Public Screenings, Today!

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

In January 2011, when we introduced the Private-Public Screening idea, as part of the AN ISLAND film release, we had no idea, what to expect. Over all we were hoping for around 200 Private-Public Screenings, during February & March, the period that we’d put aside for this experiment.

Now here we are on March 31st, the final day of the Private-Public Screenings project, with more than sixty screenings just on this very day. Everywhere from Beijing, China, over Mårslev, Denmark to Bogotá, Columbia, and a total of 1178 Private-Public Screenings during these past 2 months. It has been incredible to witness how the Private-Public Screening idea & the AN ISLAND film itself have been taking off and taken in by so many lovely people. We’ve received so much positive feedback and love during the past month, and even gained a gigantic collection of group photos from screenings all over the world (a few of them attached here).

THANK YOU ALL for welcoming Private-Public Screenings & AN ISLAND!

Very soon we will inform you about the future plans for the film. Please consider signing up for the newsletter if you wish to hear about these plans. And if you haven’t seen the film yet and is dying to do so, then check Twitter or Facebook tomorrow.

1000+ Private-Public Screenings of An Island!

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011

It seems like An Island has taken on a life on its own. We are simply baffled by the reception and feedback on the film. There is a lot of things to be happy about but the Private-Public Screenings project is our favorite part.

Today the counter for approved and confirmed Private-Public Screenings of An Island says 1080! This is far beyond our wildest expectations.

A lot of the hosts send in group photos from their screenings. We love looking at these! Three of them are attached below. There are more than 200 of these at An Island’s flickr photo page.

We also have a google map that offers a geographical overview of all the screenings. A small map can be seen below. A bigger one is available at anisland.cc/home/about

THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO HOSTED or ATTENDED A SCREENING!
and THANKS TO VINCENT MOON FOR DOING THIS FILM WITH US!

The Private-Public Screening project ends March 31st. As the sign-up process needs 11 days the last day to sign up to host a screening is on Saturday – March 19th. The capacity needs to be mininum 5 people and the event must be free. You can read a lot more about the rules and details at anisland.cc/home/host-a-screening

If you would like to attend a screening you can find a list of all of them at anisland.cc/home/attend-a-screening

We recommend the screening on Sunday afternoon in Copenhagen March 20th. Peter Broderick will play live before the film screens and as a bonus Tape from Sweden will play a mini-concert after the film. We are hosting the event together with Filmmagasinet Ekko. Doors are at 15:00. Peter at 16:00. An Island at 17:00 and then Tape play a short set afterwards. Tickets are 30 kroner at the door. You can also buy a ticket at Efterklang’s concert March 18th in Amager Bio.

WOW- European Album of the Year! – THANK YOU!

Monday, February 28th, 2011

We are honored to receive the IMPALA award for European Independent Album of The Year!

Magic Chairs came out a year ago now and currently we are on our last tour with these songs. It is a really good tour so far, we just feel really happy about everything. The record we have made, the many concerts we’ve played, the Efterkids project and of course An Island – the film we have made with Vincent Moon. Once this tour finishes in Copenhagen on March 18th we will take a break before we start working on our 4th album, but we are already full of ideas and motivation for making our next album – can’t wait to get started!

Thanks to everyone who has supported us this past year. We are thankful that we are able to do this and we are grateful towards our many friends that help us in so many ways to create our records and to play concerts across the globe. Thank You!

Here is a goody video we did for IMPALA
