Budgie on the Drums for Efterklang in Sydney!

Budgie (of Siouxsie and The Banshees and The Creatures fame) will be our drummer, when we perform our new album Piramida in Sydney Opera House May 26th!

He is amazing and a very lovely fellow.
He is replacing Toby Dammit who had to step in and help The Stooges with their tour.

Tickets for The Piramida Concert with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in Sydney Opera House can be bought at Vivid Live´s website.
We have also started to announce a list of Piramida Concerts with Orchestras in the fall. You can find details at the Concerts section.

Piramida Concerts in Denmark with Copenhagen Phil

We are super busy finishing our coming album Piramida and also preparing for the Sydney Opera House concert this month, but are also excited to tell you that we have just announced three Piramida Concerts in Denmark.

The conductor will be André de Ridder and we will be performing with the Copenhagen Phil orchestra also known as Sjællands Symfoniorkester.

Piramida Concerts in UK with Northern Sinfonia

Two weeks ago it was announced that we will premiere our new album Piramida May 26th live at Sydney Opera House with the Sydney Symphony (info&tickets).

Today we are very happy to announce six additional orchestra concerts of our new album Piramida (which is due for release later this year after the summer).

Together with the Northern Sinfonia and the conductor André de Ridder we will performing at some of England’s and Scotland’s finest concert halls in October 2012.

Efterklang on Daytrotter

This is old news if you follow Daytrotter regularly, but if you don´t then you should know that Daytrotter recently aired a session with Efterklang.

We recorded this live directly to tape at Big Orange Studios in Austin, Texas, back in September 2010. At that time we had just finished filming An Island with Vincent Moon and was now touring the US with our 7-piece band featuring Peter Broderick, Heather Woods Broderick and Daniel James (of Canon Blue).

In the session that has aired you can hear us perform Frida Found a Friend, I Was Playing Drums, Modern Drift and Step Aside.

Special Reich Effect Concert in Cork – July 30th

Saturday July 30th we will be playing the last concert of the year. It will be a Efterklang + Daniel Bjarnason & Their Messing Orchestra concert and we are so happy to get the chance to play one last time with this special 17-piece band. As reported already the band consists of Efterklang (with Peter Broderick, Heather Woods Broderick and Daniel James (Canon Blue) + the icelandic composer Daniel Bjarnason + a brass quartet + a sax quartet and a classical percussionist.

The support for the concert will also be special! Heather Woods Broderick, Canon Blue and the 4 Messing saxes will all share the stage for 30 minutes that you don’t want to miss. Heather and Canon Blue will be playing songs from their solo records and the Messing saxes will play music of Artvark.

The concert is part of the Reich Effect Festival celebrating Steve Reich’s 75th year birthday.

Cork Opera House has invited Efterklang + Daniel Bjarnason & Their Messing Orchestra to perform at The Reich Effect. A festival in Cork celebrating American composer Steve Reich.

This will be the very very last concert we do for a long time as we will begin working on a new album soon.

Efterklang+Daniel Bjarnason & Their Messing Orchestra is a special 17 piece band that debuted at the Cross Linx festival tour in February earlier this year.

It is the 7-piece Efterklang live band with Daniel James (of Canon Blue) on guitar, Heather Broderick on piano and Peter Broderick on vibes and steel drum.

And then we have the brilliant Icelandic composer Daniel Bjarnason on Rhodes and then you add a saxophone quartet, a brass quartet and a classic percussionist. This all turns into Efterklang + Daniel Bjarnason & Their Messing Orchestra. We will be playing Efterklang songs with arrangements for the Messing Orchestra by Daniel Bjarnason.

We are honored to be invited to play this concert and the whole festival program looks amazing to us. More info here about the festival.

We are starting rehearsals today with the full band and we are über excited! This might be the best band line-up for an Efterklang concert ever!!!

In less than three weeks we will play our two first concerts in Brazil ever! Actually our first concerts in South America ever. Lets hope it will be the first visit of many more in the future.

The flights are booked and right now we are just waiting for our VISAs to go in order. Hopefully they will soon and if you live in Sao Paulo or near we hope to see you at the two concerts!

AN ISLAND – 2nd TEASER & 23 SCREENINGS

Today we can reveal the 2nd teaser for AN ISLAND, the film we are working on with French director Vincent Moon. The film will have the same length as an album and in it you can see us in several musical experiments and collaborations with more than 200 kids, parents and local musicians on a very special island in the Danish country side.

Today we can also announce the first 23 official screenings of the film. We will take the film with us on tour in February and March and before all the concerts (except in NL and DK) we will be screening An Island.

The teasers can both be watched at the website for the film WWW.ANISLAND.CC and also at our Vimeo account. More teasers will come soon and it should also be mentioned that we have very exciting and democratic plans for how An Island will premiere in early February. We will be needing your kind assistance so stay tuned please!

PETER BRODERICK (live) & SCREENING IN COPENHAGEN

Efterklang will play live in Copenhagen in Amager Bio on March 18th, but we will not be screening the film this day. Together with Filmmagasinet Ekko we will present Peter Broderick live and a screening of An Island in Amager Bio on Sunday March 20th instead. It will be an seated afternoon concert and screening and it will only cost 30 kroner to get in and enjoy Peter’s incredible live performance and to watch An Island on Amager Bio’s huge screen.

Tickets will not be sold in advance, but at the door, and also at Efterklang’s concert on March 18th. However you should note that advance tickets for Efterklang’s concert in Amager Bio on March 18th are available from http://www.billetlugen.dk/musik/14075/, and the first 150 tickets to be sold will give entrance to both events (March 18 and March 20) in Amager Bio.

Final Concerts in Copenhagen and Brussels!

We have just announced two more dates for our final Magic Chairs Tour in February and March. March 1st we will play in Brussels at Botanique and then we will end the tour with a big homecoming concert in Copenhagen on March 18th at Amager Bio.

Our last Magic Chairs Tour holds 27 concerts and once it is over we will take a long break from touring. In fact we plan not to play a single concert before we have finished our 4th album sometime in the far future. With this tour we will finish almost 3,5 years of non stop touring and it has been an adventure. An incredible adventure.
