WOW- European Album of the Year! – THANK YOU!

Monday, February 28th, 2011

We are honored to receive the IMPALA award for European Independent Album of The Year!

Magic Chairs came out a year ago now and currently we are on our last tour with these songs. It is a really good tour so far, we just feel really happy about everything. The record we have made, the many concerts we’ve played, the Efterkids project and of course An Island – the film we have made with Vincent Moon. Once this tour finishes in Copenhagen on March 18th we will take a break before we start working on our 4th album, but we are already full of ideas and motivation for making our next album – can’t wait to get started!

Thanks to everyone who has supported us this past year. We are thankful that we are able to do this and we are grateful towards our many friends that help us in so many ways to create our records and to play concerts across the globe. Thank You!

Here is a goody video we did for IMPALA

Happy New Year! Free Remix and New Video!

Friday, December 31st, 2010

We hope you had a fantastic 2010 and we hope your 2011 will be even better!

To celebrate the new year we are hereby giving you a new free remix of Raincoats made by Kasper Winding and also a video featuring the (almost) original version of Raincoats and footage from the Danish web series Robin Färdig by Danish director Daniel Kragh-Jacobsen.

Listen to Raincoats (Kasper Winding Remix)

Download Raincoats (Kasper Winding Remix) here. We suggest that you add this remix to the playlist for your party tonight!

Raincoats + Robin Färdig Video

The entire Robin Färdig web series can be watched at dr.dk/pirattv. Raincoats is the theme song for the series and the Raincoats video gives you a glimpse of the Robin Färdig world. Currently there is no international version of the series but if you understand Danish we recommend the series – it is fun and brings back memories of the troubled times in high school.

Before we say goodbye we want to give you these four recommendations of some of our favorite albums released in 2010.
Casper liked Murder – Gospel of Man a lot
Thomas liked M.I.A – Maya a lot
Rasmus liked Clogs – The Creatures in the Garden of Lady Walton a lot
Mads liked Owen Pallett – Heartland a lot

Have lots of FUN tonight and take care of each other and the rockets.
Thanks for another great year!

EFTERKIDS – Magic Chairs special release event in New York on Tuesday

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Efterklang + gifted students from PS.859 = Efterkids! Feb 23rd in NYC

We are so super excited about this project. On Tuesday we will perform two of our songs together with kids from the Special Music School on strings in a very special way – If you want to go this special event you can! Just send an email to rsvpnyc@4ad.com

FROM 4AD in New York
We are very pleased to announce a VERY exciting record release party/performance for Efterklang’s 4AD debut album, Magic Chairs. It’s a multimedia extravaganza, and open to anyone with RSVP.

On Tuesday February 23rd from 5-7pm at the Clark Studio Theater in Manhattan, an 8 piece orchestra, made up of kids from PS. 859, a public school for musically gifted children from grades K-8 (aka The Special Music School) will perform Efterklang songs in tandem with a filmed performance of the band. The band will be projected on a 20-foot high screen behind the kids. We call this collaboration Efterkids! With this performance, 4AD and Efterklang hope to raise awareness for the overall issue of music education in schools.

From 5-6pm we will have a listening party for Magic Chairs with complimentary beer and wine, and the performance will begin at 6pm.

DATE: Tuesday February 23rd
LOCATION: Clark Studio Theater is part of Lincoln Center, located in the Rose Building, 7th Floor, at West 65th Street and Amsterdam Avenue. INFO
TIME: 5-7pm
WHO: anyone, space permitting
RSVP: rsvpnyc@4ad.com

As a fund-raising effort, 4AD will be filming the performance and producing a special 4AD Session (www.4ad.com/sessions/) that will go live online in March. The Efterkids 4AD Session will be heavily promoted and visitors will be asked to make a donation to the Special Music School in order to view the session. Materials will also be made available for other schools to create their own performance and videos of Efterkids.

The proceeds from this campaign will go toward raising money for much need computer equipment and other supplies for the school, and in addition, 4AD will be making a donation to the school.

ABOUT PS.859 – THE SPECIAL MUSIC SCHOOL
The Special Music School (SMS) is a unique model for how publicly funded arts education can work.

SMS was founded in 1996 as a public/private partnership between the New York City Department of Education and the Kaufman Center, a not-for-profit, multi-arts organization. Its students have benefitted greatly from an integrated approach to curriculum, receiving rigorous musical training and academic guidance in a holistic context that emphasizes creative thinking and problem solving.

THE NEED FOR MUSIC EDUCATION IN SCHOOLS
Producing future generations of musicians and adults who appreciate art is vital to our social fabric.

Beyond creating art, a recent Conference Board Report revealed that 74 percent of employers agree that creativity is increasingly important in U.S. workplaces. In addition, teamwork and critical thinking ranked in the five most important skills for new workforce entrants, yet more than half of these employers stated that entrants exhibited deficiencies in these skills. Ensuring that students have the opportunity to study a musical instrument helps resolve this deficit.

As other nations have looked to the United States education system as a model, and are including arts education in their curricula, many American schools are cutting these same programs. Without music programs in our public schools our children and our culture are weakened.

Happy New Year Video Postcard! with 4 audio snippets!

Friday, January 1st, 2010

Hope you’re all enjoying yourself with family, champagne, coffee, friends, painkillers or whoever or whatever is around you today. Our tiny band have completely split up, for the cause of holiday, being literally spread all over the world. Thomas in Thailand, Rasmus in Istanbul, Casper in Toronto and Mads taking care of business in Copenhagen.

Guess we needed a little break from each other or just simply a little time with someone else. After all, we’ve been seeing the world collectively nearly everyday for the past couple of years, and very soon we’ll be joining forces again (tour dates 2010).

Wow! An entire decade just passed by, and the slipstream of nostalgia just reached our shore. From the view from our nose tips, it’s been a very very special one! Mainly because there was no Efterklang a decade ago, and secondly because we’re having the time of our life!

Lets look ahead. Just around the corner, on February 22nd (23rd in the US) 2010, we’ll release our 3rd studio album: Magic Chairs, coming out on our very own Rumraket label in Scandinavia and our brand new home 4AD in the rest of the world.

We’re ULTRA EXCITED to present it for you!!!

Here is a Happy New Year Video Postcard from our 4 corners of the world to all of you sweet people. The postcard includes 4 snippets of songs from Magic Chairs. Enjoy!

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF YOU & YOURS. SEE YOU SOOOOON!!!

Rasmus, Mads, Thomas, Casper

EFTERKLANG signs to 4AD – September news

Efterklang newsletter 03/09/2009
EFTERKLANG SIGNS TO 4AD!
We are very happy to let you know that we have signed a new record deal with 4AD – one of our absolute favourite labels in the world.

We will now be part of a roster that currently counts fine artists like The National, Deerhunter, TV on the Radio, M Ward, Scott Walker, St. Vincent and many more and we are of course full of anticipation about this new collaboration between 4AD and Efterklang. First project together will be our 3rd studio album, which will be released sometime in the first quarter of 2010. The playground for this new friendship is the world, but in Scandinavia we will release our future albums on our own Rumraket label.

This does not mean that we are cutting all ties to our current home, The Leaf Label. Not at all, actually. October 19th 2009 they will release Performing Parades by Efterklang & The Danish National Chamber Orchestra on CD/DVD & LP/DVD.

We have been releasing our music on The Leaf Label since 2004 and it is the home of our Tripper and Parades albums as well as our mini-albums Springer and Under Giant Trees. It has been absolutely joyful for us and we are proud that we have contributed to their incredible discography. We are still waiting for them to release a record we don’t like, but we are beginning to think that it will never happen. We think they will be reading this and here is a huge and sincere THANK YOU for them.

We will be on tour this fall starting Friday!
We are touring most of the fall, because we like to tour and because we want to celebrate the Performing Parades release. The biggest show this fall will be October 28th at Barbican Hall in London where we will be playing a Performing Parades Concert with the classical orchestra Britten Sinfonia. Tickets are available here: barbican.org.uk

Performing Parades in Barbican Hall, London!

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

Very exciting news for us!!

To celebrate the release of our brand new live album and film Performing Parades, we have confirmed a concert on 28 October at the Barbican Hall in London in which we will perform our album Parades (2007) with The Britten Sinfonia. The orchestra previously teamed up with us at this year’s fuseleeds09 festival for a performance we will never forget. We look so much forward to play with Britten Sinfonia again!

The show coincides with the release of our Performing Parades CD/DVD and LP/DVD that feature our performance of Parades in Copenhagen last September, with The Danish National Chamber Orchestra. The 55-minute film is directed by Benjamin Hesselholdt, and is accompanied by an audio CD/LP of the full concert.

The DVD will be stuffed full of extras, including a behind the scenes documentary (made by Ralf Christensen and Anders Bötter) of the preparations for the event, and all the videos made for tracks from Parades.

Performing Parades will be released on October 19.
You can buy tickets for the performance in Barbican Hall right here – Barbican.org.uk
The concert is promoted by our good friends from Arctic Circle
