Xerox Ros & Eftercopy?

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

Sigur Rós just posted a very interesting post on their blog. Interesting in the way that you get offended on their behalf and also interesting because it describes a hot topic and widespread standard in the TV ad business today.

Have you ever watched a TV ad and thought that the music reminded you of a song you know by a band you like?

Quite often bands willingly let TV ads feature their music in return for a fair compensation, but just as often TV ads feature music that is copying original artists. Sometimes the similarity is just too much and it makes your stomach turn. The Sigur Ros blog post showcases a line of these bad examples.

Recently we got contacted by an Efterklang listener in Brazil. He wanted us to watch this new and expensively produced TV ad for Brastemp. A huge local company owned by Whirlpool Corporation. The music in their ad is so heavily inspired by Modern Drift that it for sure made our stomachs turn.

Let us know what you think?

Chords Across America

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

If you follow us on Twitter, Facebook or Flickr you might have noticed that we currently are uploading a short video clip each day.

For each city we visit on this current North American Tour we plan to video record a chord. We are sort of inventing the rules on the go and look forward to see how the collection of chords will look once we finish!

You are welcome to send us your own chord btw. Just email it to contact [a] efterklang.net. Also, if you live in Portland then we would like to invite you to come down and record a chord with us at Doug Fir on Saturday – meet us at 6pm on Jupiter Hotels parking lot – bring an instrument or sing!

Below are the three latest chords.
Today we play in Salt Lake City so expect that chord to air soon. You can watch the entire set of Chords right here on Flickr.

North American Tour Starts Today! FREE REMIX

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

Today September 7th we start our 4th North American Tour in Montreal, Canada. We really look forward to this tour. 21 concerts await before it all ends in New York in a month on October 2nd. New American band Buke And Gass will support us on the entire tour and we look forward to get to know them – we already love their music!

We will be touring as a 7-piece. It will be the four of us and then Heather Broderick on piano, Peter Broderick on violin + more and Daniel James of Canon Blue on guitar. We are thrilled to welcome back both Peter and Daniel to the live band. It´s been a while since we had the pleasure of playing with them.

To celebrate the beginning of the tour we are giving away a free REMIX MP3. It is a remix of Alike made by Opiate aka Thomas Knak. We love all his work and we love this remix! Take a listen!
