Budgie (of Siouxsie and The Banshees and The Creatures fame) will be our drummer, when we perform our new album Piramida in Sydney Opera House May 26th!
He is amazing and a very lovely fellow.
He is replacing Toby Dammit who had to step in and help The Stooges with their tour.
Tickets for The Piramida Concert with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in Sydney Opera House can be bought at Vivid Live´s website.
We have also started to announce a list of Piramida Concerts with Orchestras in the fall. You can find details at the Concerts section.
We are rehearsing, rehearsing rehearsing and rehearsing this week. Here is a video of Budgie rehearsing a drum part for a new song:
We are super busy finishing our coming album Piramida and also preparing for the Sydney Opera House concert this month, but are also excited to tell you that we have just announced three Piramida Concerts in Denmark.
The conductor will be André de Ridder and we will be performing with the Copenhagen Phil orchestra also known as Sjællands Symfoniorkester.

Are we happy and proud about this? YES!
Are we excited and equally scared? YES indeed!
It is our utmost pleasure to tell you that May 26th 2012 we will be performing live in Sydney Opera House together with the Sydney Symphony orchestra.
The concert will be the world premiere of our new album, which will be released later in 2012 on 4AD and Rumraket.
Our new album also has a title. We’re calling it Piramida.
For more information about the concert including tickets go here.
We are currently working intensely on the album – the previous post on this site gives you a little update. For the concert we have engaged composers Missy Mazzoli (Kronos Quartet, Victoire), Karsten Fundal (Under Byen, Choir of Young Believers) and Daniel Bjarnason (Sigur Rós, Múm) to help our new songs to fully integrate with the Sydney Symphony orchestra, which will be conducted by Matthew Coorey.
We will be performing as a six-piece, augmented by Peter Broderick (piano), Katinka Fogh Vindelev (choir) and Toby Dammit (drums). As earlier told, founding member Thomas recently left Efterklang and Toby Dammit will be his replacement in Sydney. Toby has played drums for amazing people like Iggy Pop, Rufus Wainwright and many others.

This part of the contest ends on Friday February 17th at lunchtime Danish time. We will draw lots between the correct answers. Please don’t forget to sign up with a functioning email address when you comment.
There is more info about An Island available at www.anisland.cc/home. The film can also be purchased via this site in the DVD edition or digitally after the Pay-What-You-Want model.
Here is an outtake from An Island that can be found in the DVD’s bonus material. In it you see Efterklang (featuring Peter Broderick, Heather Woods Broderick, Nils Frahm, Niklas Antonson from Slaraffenland and Frederik Teige) performing Modern Drift on three pianos
Our dear friend, great musician and Efterklang drummer/trumpet player for over 10 years, Thomas Husmer has decided to seek new adventures and is no longer a member of the band.
He will be dearly missed in Efterklang, but we fully support and understand his decision. Please help us thanking him for all his contributions and the many memories. You can send Thomas a greeting in the comment field below.
Thomas has written a message to us all. Before you read it, please note that Thomas has not quit music. If you live in Copenhagen and would like to play music with him in some form, then he welcomes you to take contact.
Please also note that this is not the end of Efterklang. We (Casper, Mads and Rasmus) have been working on a new Efterklang album as a trio for 6 months now and we are very excited to report that it is going well with many new songs in progress. You can follow the process via our Twitter and Flickr pages.
Message from Thomas Husmer:
Dear friends and fans of Efterklang.
I feel so genuinely privileged to have been part of the Efterklang family and the whole Efterklang project. Over the past ten years we’ve done so much together. We’ve had so much fun and we’ve been so many fantastic places. From when we started out and until now, it’s been an adventure that exceeded all we ever dreamed of. Life with Efterklang has given me more than I could’ve ever imagined, and I’m forever thankful for everything. I’ve had the experience of my life on this crazy fantastic roller coaster ride!
It’s difficult for me to explain in few words why I’ve chosen to step back from something so dear to me. And I don’t expect anyone to fully understand. Lately my priorities in life have changed. I’ve felt the urge to dedicate myself to a more simple and domestic life closer to my family. And I’ve found it impossible to combine this with my life in Efterklang. This has been a very tough decision for me, but I feel good where I am right now. I’m a happy man with a rich past and an unrevealed future.
I want to thank my bandmates for all the great times we’ve had together. I want to thank my family and friends for all your support throughout this time. And I want to thank the Efterklang supporters for all the cheers and smiling faces. You all made my life richer.
This is old news if you follow Daytrotter regularly, but if you don´t then you should know that Daytrotter recently aired a session with Efterklang.
We recorded this live directly to tape at Big Orange Studios in Austin, Texas, back in September 2010. At that time we had just finished filming An Island with Vincent Moon and was now touring the US with our 7-piece band featuring Peter Broderick, Heather Woods Broderick and Daniel James (of Canon Blue).
In the session that has aired you can hear us perform Frida Found a Friend, I Was Playing Drums, Modern Drift and Step Aside.
We are very happy to present The Figment Notebook.
A new animated shortfilm by author and filmmaker Karim Ghahwagi with music by Mads Brauer & Casper Clausen of Efterklang and narration by Sara Davis.
The film was commissioned by c.sides for their project Audible Approaches for a Better Place and will only be online in December before it will make its debuts at film festivals in 2012.
Karim Ghahwagi and Efterklang used to work closely together in the years 2003 to 2005 where Karim directed several Efterklang music videos and also took an important role in the live concerts with his incredible video collages. Karim moved on to work with artists like Trentemøller and has recently also had his first book published.
The Figment Notebook brings Karim and Efterklang back together!
Enjoy!
